From 1968-69, Bob Sheehan was a pitcher on the Cerritos College
baseball team. After his playing career was completed, Sheehan went
into coaching, where he has spent the last 40 years. From
1983-2010, Sheehan, a graduate of La Mirada High, served as the
head coach at Chino High School and posted a record of 482-247-3
and also spent time as a teacher and the school's athletic
director. As a result of his storied history with the school, Chino
High will be dedicating the baseball field in his name on Sunday,
June 2, 2013.
In his freshman season with the Falcons in 1968, Sheehan helped the
team finish second in the Metropolitan Conference and the team
posted a 28-7 record. In his sophomore year, Sheehan joined Mike
McEachran and Bob Apodaca to record just the second no-hitter in
school history when they blanked Citrus College, 14-0. Cerritos
went on to post a 22-7 record and won the Metropolitan League
championship.
"That game was a lot of fun for us," said Sheehan. "Mac pitched the
first five innings, I threw the sixth and seventh and Bob pitched
the eighth and ninth innings."
Upon his retirement from Chino High, Sheehan has moved in to
Arrowhead Christian High, where he is now serving as a walk-on
coach. Over the course of his coaching career, Sheehan posted a
546-296-3 record and sent over 60 players on to four-year
colleges.
The dedication of the field will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Chino High
Baseball Field, which is located at 5472 Park Place, Chino, CA
91710. Those attending are asked to park on either Jefferson Ave,
or Park Place and take the access road next to the student parking
lot. A reception will follow the dedication with light refreshments
to be served.
