TEAM FINISHES SECOND AT SANTA BARBARA

As the season starts to come down to the most important meets of the season, the Cerritos College women's cross country team has started to show the ability to bunch their runners in the top five positions, which is what compiles their team score. At the Santa Barbara Invitational, the Falcons had their first five runners finish in the top 26 in the 5K race to come in second place as a team. With their 93 team points, Cerritos saw only Antelope Valley College finish ahead of them out of the 12 teams with 52 points. The team will take the next week off before they host the conference championships at Cerritos Park on October 29.

Leading the way for the Falcons was freshman Natalie Fyke (Esperanza HS), who finished the race in 21:10, which put her eight overall, with the winning time coming from Robinea McClinton of ECC Compton Center in 20:40. Finishing in a tie were teammates Gabriella Villalobos (El Rancho HS) and Angela Gonzales (Lakewood HS), as they both completed the course in 22:05 and were awarded 20th and 21st places, respectively. The final two runners that rounded out the team scoring were the pair of Giselle Dominguez (Warren HS) and Jessica Yuen (Mark Keppel HS), who cross the finish line two seconds apart. Dominguez came in 25th place out of the 100 runners with a time of 22:24, with Yuen coming in at 22:26.

Cerritos had six other runners compete in the invitational and they included Julia Plecnik (St. Joseph HS; 33rd place; 22:50), Alexis Perez (Cantwell HS; 35th place; 22:52), Jessica Guzman (California HS; 50th place; 24:37), Sushama Sharma (Gahr HS; 52nd place; 24:47), Roxana Lopez (56th place; 25:10) and Brittany Guzman (62nd place; 25:36).
