FALCONS WIN DESPITE ONLY FIVE PLAYERS

Two days ago, the Cerritos College women's tennis team suffered a close loss when they were only able to suit up five players. On Thursday, the Falcons again were short one player, but picked up two wins in doubles play to register a 5-4 non-conference win at Rio Hondo College. The win improved the team's record to 5-12 in their final match before the start of the South Coast Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by Cerritos on April 19-20.

Aware that they would have to forfeit one of the singles and doubles matches, Cerritos picked up three singles victories and the captured both of the doubles matches to secure the team victory. Freshman Mandi Jenkins (Connections Academy HS) picked up her second win of the week, as she posted a 6-2, 6-3 decision against Jess Guerrero, while sophomore Kim Diaz (Norwalk HS) also won with a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the #3 position. Completing the split in singles was a 6-3, 6-2 win in the #4 position from freshman Nancy Audetat (Norwalk HS).

In doubles action, Jenkins and Audetat had their hands full with Guerrero and Nancy Duong, but came away with an 8-6 win, while Diaz teamed with sophomore Hui You Sohn (Cerritos HS) for a strong 8-2 victory.
