On the strength of her 4063 points, Cerritos College track and field freshman Angel Sifuentes (Central Union HS) came in seventh place at the Southern California Heptathlon Championships on Wednesday at Falcon Stadium. The point total for Sifuentes was also the fourth most in school history and advances her to the State Championships, which will be hosted by Cerritos on May 18-19. Also competing was freshman Tuki Sauvao (Artesia HS), who came in 13th place with 3578 points.
Taking advantage of her strongest event, Sifuentes collected 613 points in the javelin with a toss that traveled 37.14 meters, which was the second best in the event. She also finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.13 meters, earning her 538 points, while she ran a 2:30.44 in the 800 meters, good for 687 points and was the fourth fastest time. Additionally, Sifuentes collected 610 points in the high jump with a leap that cleared 1.49 meters and was the ninth best in the field. The events she struggled in were the 200 meters, where her time of 27.96 was 16th best and earned 634 points, while her time of 17.98 in the 100-meter HH garnered her only 491 points.
As for Sauvao, she performed well in the throwing events and had difficulty with distance running. She came in second place in the shot put with a toss of 11.08 meters, which earned her 600 points, while her javelin throw of 32.78 meters collected 529 points and was the fourth best. Sauvao also came in eighth place in the 100-meter HH with a time of 16.24, which netted 685 points and added another 456 points for her long jump of 4.61 meters.
