Beach Volleyball: Team advances one pair to SoCal Tournament

With a chance to advance two of their pairs to the Southern California Tournament next weekend at Mt. San Antonio College, the Cerritos College beach volleyball team will be sending one to the next round. On Saturday at El Camino College in the South Coast Conference Pairs Tournament, the Falcons saw the tandem of Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS) and Rosie Cazares-Gonzalez (El Rancho HS) finish in fifth place and will represent the team next weekend. The duo have a 19-5 record together on the season.

The duo opened the day with a thrilling 21-17, 21-23, 15-8 win over teammates Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS) and Nayeli SalasOrtiz (Schurr HS), which advanced them to the fifth place match. They were pitted against Long Beach City College's Mikayla Curry and Kaylani Moncada. The Vikings duo had just eliminated the Cerritos pair of Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) and Josie Navarro (Sierra Vista HS) by a 21-10, 21-14 score.

Rodriguez and Cazares-Gonzalez recorded a hard-fought 23-21, 21-11 win over the LBCC pair to earn fifth place in the tournament.

This marks the second season that the Falcons have advanced one pair to the SoCal Pairs Tournament.
