During the 2009-10 season, Greg Howell was a starting guard on the Cerritos College men's basketball team. After spending three seasons as a member of the University of Rice coaching staff, Howell was just named as a member of the coaching staff at Arizona State University. Howell will serve as the Recruting Coordinator and Director of Player Personnel.
During his lone season with the Falcons, Howell averaged 6.4 points and 2.1 rebounds a game, which also served as the first season for head coach Russ May. The team went 18-11 on the year, tied for second place in the South Coast Conference South Division and dropped their first round playoff game against Mt. San Antonio College, 67-65. Howell came to Cerritos from Fullerton College and then transferred to Waldorf (IA) College, where he played from 2010-12 and recorded the sixth most steals (81) in school history.
After graduating from Waldorf College, Howell served as a Marketing Associate and Scouting Assistant for the Houston Rockets. While with the Rockets, he assisted with online scouting future potential prospects while creating detailed reports on player's on-court performance. He then spent four years as Director and Head Coach of the Team Harden AAU basketball program, where he handled all administrative responsibilities while developing and implementing training programs for all teams.
Howell (pictured, left with the Falcons) was then hired by Rice University, where he spent his first year as the Video Coordinator, where he prepared all post-practice video for the coaches and team. He was promoted to assistant coach in 2020-21 and helped the Owls to back-to-back postseason appearances and assisted in helping multiple players earn all-conference recognition.
He will be joining a Sun Devils team that went 14-18 last season and lost their opening round game of the PAC-12 Tournament, where they were the #11-seed.
