The Cerritos College men's track and field team may have finished second at the South Coast Conference Championships. But performances by two of their athletes solidified their winning all of the individual awards. The Falcons will be taking part in the Southern California Prelims at Riverside City College on Saturday.

Sophomore Adam Aguirre (Cantwell HS), who won the javelin, came in second place in the high jump and third place in the long jump, was named the conference's Field Athlete of the Year and Field Athlete of the Meet. His distance of 57.10 meters in the javelin won the event and is the fourth best in school history. It was also the second best javelin distance in Southern California this year. The school record holder in the high jump (2.16 meters) had to settle for second place at the conference championships. But he enters the SoCal Prelims with the best height in Southern California. In the long jump, Aguirre, who has signed a full scholarship with the University of Mississippi, came in third place at 7.11 meters.

Double-winner Francisco Ortiz (Katella HS) was named the conference's Athlete of the Year and Athlete of the Meet based on his performances. He edged the second place finisher to win the 800 meters (1:57.40), while his time of 4:06.62 in the 1500 meters, won the conference title and just topped teammates Jonathan Bazinet (4:06.94) and Anthony Lozano (4:06.95). Both times were slower than his best this year, as he enters the SoCal Prelims with the top time in the 800 meters (1:54.48) and has the sixth fastest time in the 1500 meters at 3:59.21.
