Behind a pair of individual state champions and several All-American performances, the Cerritos College men's track and field team placed sixth overall at the 3C2A State Championships held at Mt. SAC over the weekend.
The Falcons totaled 45 team points in the two-day meet, finishing behind team champion Mt. SAC (144 points), San Diego Mesa (88), Riverside City (61), American River (50), and Modesto (47.5).
Sophomore distance runner Juan Flores captured a state championship in the 3000-meter steeplechase after crossing the finish line in 9:19.26. Flores controlled the pace throughout the race and secured the title to earn All-American honors for the Falcons.
In the middle-distance events, Axel Rebolledo-Ynostros added another state title for Cerritos when he won the 800-meter run in 1:52.81. His victory gave the Falcons their second men's individual championship of the meet.
The Falcons also received a runner-up finish from Joshua Morales in the 10,000 meters. Morales posted a time of 32:04.72 to place second overall and contribute valuable team points.
Cerritos concluded the state meet with multiple All-American efforts and one of the top team finishes in California, capping off another strong postseason performance for the program.
