The Cerritos College softball team scored some timely runs and leaned on a strong complete-game effort in the circle to defeat Mt. San Antonio College, 4-3, in conference action. It was the second win over the Mounties in the last 11 days and draws the Falcons into a first place tie in the conference with Mt. San Antonio.
The Falcons wasted no time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded, Luna Villa delivered a clutch single to right field that brought in both Marley Cortez and Alyssa Avila, giving the Falcons an early 2-0 lead.
The Falcons quickly responded to the three-run Mounties inning in the bottom half. Annie Perez came around to score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3, setting the stage for another key hit. Later in the frame, Amarie Encarnacion came through with an RBI single to shortstop, plating Villa and giving Cerritos a 4-3 advantage they would not relinquish.
Tatyana Cortez was strong in the circle for Cerritos, tossing a complete game to earn the victory and improve to 15-5 on the season. She allowed just four hits and three runs while striking out six and walking one over seven innings.
Offensively, Villa led the way, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Encarnacion added a hit and an RBI, while Isabella Najera and Cortez each contributed a hit. Avila also played a key role at the top of the lineup, drawing three walks and scoring a run.
