After spotting host Santa Ana College a 12-0 lead after the first three weights, the Cerritos College wrestling team picked up wins in the final seven weights, to post a 36-12 win on Wednesday night. The victory closes out the Falcons Southwest Conference schedule with a 4-1 record and second place finish. The team will travel to Fresno on Saturday to compete in the Bill Musick Open.

Two of the team's wins were via the forfeit, while they also recorded a pair of pins. At 157 pounds, sophomore Noah Zuniga (Trabuco Hills HS) trailed early in the match, but worked out of the initial takedown by Anthony Marquez, and came away with a pin at the 2:08 mark. Also down early in the match, sophomore 184-pound Farzad Hashimi (El Dorado HS) found himself behind, 9-0 in the first period. However, Hashimi was able to capitalize on an opening and recorded the pin 2:00 into the match.

Cerritos also saw freshman Nathan Castellanos (Trabuco Hills HS) record a 19-2 technical fall at 157 pounds after opening a 10-2 lead through the first period. He ended up ending the match in the second period after a pair of four-point near falls. The comeback started at 149 pounds when sophomore Jake Topartzer (San Juan Hills HS) earned an 18-4 major decision that saw him leading, 8-2 after the first two periods. He opened the third period with a reversal and after allowing an escape point, he posted a pair of takedowns to close out the win.

Closing out the match was freshman 285-pound Simon Flores (Paloma Valley HS), who secured a 6-4 win that was tied, 1-1 through the first three periods. In the overtime period, each wrestler was awarded a stalling point against the other, with Flores picking up an escape point and a takedown right before the end of overtime.
