CERRITOS WINS 10th STRAIGHT GAME

Eight different players collected at least one hit to help lead the Cerritos College softball team to an 8-3 South Coast Conference win over Pasadena City College at Jackie Robinson Field on Tuesday. The win was the 10th in a row for the Falcons, who maintained their one-game lead over Mt. San Antonio College in the SCC with two games remaining. The team will host Long Beach City College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in a conference game.

In the win over the Lancers (9-28, 4-15), the Falcons (27-7, 18-1) took a 5-0 lead after the first two innings, with sophomore shortstop Briana Quintana (Mayfair HS) driving in the first run in the top of the first inning when her two-out double drove in sophomore outfielder Lauren Castrellon (Downey HS), who led off the game by being hit by a pitch. In the top of the second inning, Cerritos loaded the bases with no outs when freshman first baseman Andrea Arellano (Downey HS) led off with a single before freshman catcher Ally Catania (Pacifica HS) drew a walk and sophomore outfielder Maiya Tallakson (Redondo Union HS) followed with a single. It was the first of three hits on the day for Tallakson.

Castrellon gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead with a two-run double, before sophomore third baseman Krista Mele (California HS) drove in a run with a single. Freshman outfielder Shelby Blair (Lakewood HS) made it 5-0 with her sacrifice fly. Blair also added an RBI double in the sixth inning, while sophomore designated player Jackie Flores (California HS) contributed an RBI sacrifice fly.

Freshman pitcher Lily Cornejo (Paramount HS) earned her 25th win on the year with a seven-hit effort. She surrendered all three runs in the third inning, with four of those hits coming in that stanza. The win was also her 24th complete game on the season.
