After sitting out the 2012 season, a pair of former Cerritos College softball players have signed scholarship papers to play at Cumberland (TN) University, an NAIA school. Signing with the Bulldogs are catcher Jessica Roper(Mayfair HS), who was a red-shirt at Northern Illinois University this past season, along with outfielder Shawnee Kirk (Lakewood HS). They will be joining former Falcons Natalie Garcia (Mayfair HS) and pitcher Jessica Lozano (Banning HS), who were red-shirts for Cumberland last year.

While playing for the Falcons in 2011, Roper, who will have three years of eligibility, was an All-Southern California selection, as well as 1st Team All-South Coast Conference after batting a team-leading .422 with four home runs, 10 doubles, 40 RBI and a drew a school record 37 walks on the year. As for Kirk, she earned 1st Team All-SCChonors as a sophomore when she batted .327 with eight doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI. She was a solid defensive player, committing just one error, while Roper threw out 11 of 36 attempted base stealers and committed just three errors.

Last season, the Bulldogs posted a 27-22-1 record and will look to the quartet of Cerritos players to help them improve on their 16-14-1 TranSouth Conference record. Cumberland loses two players to graduation, while boast six seniors and 11 juniors on next year's team.
