Behind a dominant performance from sophomore forward Dorian Tate, Cerritos College rolled to a 100-58 victory over Compton College on Wednesday evening.
Tate was nearly unstoppable, pouring in a game-high 27 points on an efficient 11-of-14 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. He added 10 rebounds to secure a double-double while dishing out four assists in one of his most complete performances of the season.
The Falcons shot over 50 percent from the field and caught fire from three-point range, knocking down 11-of-25 attempts. Cerritos also controlled the glass, outrebounding Compton 54-36, including a 34-17 advantage on the defensive boards.
DJ Holt contributed 12 points and four assists, while Kamaury Washington added 12 points, four rebounds and four assists. Isaac Sowell was perfect from the floor going 3-for-3 and dominated inside with 12 rebounds to go along with six points and four assists.
Off the bench, Elijah Gelin provided a spark with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from long distance. Dylan Davis chipped in eight points, hitting his lone three-point attempt and going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Cerritos set the tone early with balanced scoring and defensive pressure, holding Compton to just 31.0 percent shooting and 16.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Falcons also tallied 20 assists on 36 made baskets, showcasing crisp ball movement throughout the contest.
The Falcons' depth proved to be a key factor, as the bench combined for 37 points in the win.
Cerritos will look to carry the momentum into its next conference matchup as the regular season continues.
