On Saturday, the Cerritos College women's track and field team took part in the Gaucho Relays at UC Santa Barbara and finished in fifth place with 48 team points. Next up for the Falcons, they will split their squad on Saturday with part of the team going to the Occidental Invitational/Distance Carnival at Occidental College, while others will go to the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational.

Freshman Mackenzie Monson (South Torrance HS) led the team with a second place, fifth place and sixth place showing in three throwing events. In the hammer, she placed second with a throw of 49.55 meters, and came up short of eclipsing the 50-meter mark for the third week in a row. Her javelin throw of 26.05 placed her fifth, while she also took sixth place in the discus with a throw of 40.38 meters.

The only first place finisher was sophomore thrower Tupouahau Tauaika (Orange Lutheran HS/UC Davis), who won the shot put with a distance of 12.80 meters. Monson came in eighth place in the event with a distance of 11.50 meters.

In the running events, the foursome of Jasmine Soto-Castro (Schurr HS), Angel Corral (El Rancho HS), Jewel Scott (Warren HS) and Deona Standifer (Mayfair HS) came in third place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:03.40.
