Competing in the Southern California Championships at the Naval Training Center in San Diego on Friday, the Cerritos College women's cross country posted a seventh place result. The Falcons, who finished with 248 team points, held off South Coast Conference opponent Los Angeles Harbor College (257 points), while they just missed out on sixth place, which was take by College of the Canyons, who had 244 team points. Taking a week off to train, the team will compete in the 3C2A State Championships on November 22 at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Running the 5000-meter course, freshman Esther Gonzalez (Warren HS) was the first Cerritos runner to complete the course, as her time of 20:12.86 was edged out by less than a second by two runners, while Gonzalez held off two runners in a five-person pack.

The next four runners, which compiled the team scoring, all crossed the finish line within 12 seconds of each other and were led by freshman Monserrat Malo (Warren HS). Her time of 21:03.99 put her in 55th place, as 10 runners all finished within 10 seconds of each other. After Malo, freshman Viviana Martinez (Downey HS) placed 59th in a time of 21:05.56, while freshman Victoria Ruiz (California HS) and sophomore Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) finished back-to-back. Ruiz posted a 62nd place time of 21:10.80, with Barnwell's time of 21:15.91 putting her in 63rd place out of 147 total runners.

The team also saw freshman Samantha Thompson (Downey HS) compete and finish 91st in a time of 22:07.46, while Jessica Jordan (Narbonne HS) crossed the finish line in 22:17.34, good for 93rd place.
