For the fifth game in a row, and eighth time in the last nine games, the Cerritos College women's soccer team shut out their opponent. On Thursday, the Falcons concluded South Coast Conference play with a 4-0 win at East Los Angeles College to finish with a 14-0-0 record, while they improved to 20-0-0 on the season. The undefeated record was the second-ever in school history (12-0-0 in 2006) and it marks the fourth time in the last five seasons the Cerritos finished unbeaten in SCC play. The nation's top-ranked team will conclude their regular season on Friday at 3:00 p.m. when they host defending state champion San Bernardino Valley College.

Just seven minutes into the game, the Falcons got on the board, as freshman Mabel Chacon (Cabrillo HS) sent a crossing pass from the end line to sophomore Jackie Cisneros (Bellflower HS) at the far post and she converted for her first goal of the season. Before halftime, freshman Samantha Smith (Long Beach Millikan HS) received the ball on the left side, just outside the six-yard box, where she passed to freshman Tatiana Valentin (Santiago HS) at the penalty kick box. After Valentin controlled the ball, she centered and scored her second goal of the season and first of two on the day.

In the 55th minute, Valentin gave the Falcons a 3-0 lead when she received a crossing pass from freshman Lauren Nanez (La Mirada HS) on the right side. After the first shot by Valentin was saved, the rebound came right back to her and she scored. The scoring concluded in the 76th minute when freshman Victoria Carter (La Mirada HS) found Nanez, who dribbled past two defenders and lined a shot into the upper corner for her 21st goal of the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Alexis Carrillo (Bishop Amat HS) earned the win by turning away five shots in the first 50 minutes, while sophomore Laura Ropp (Lakewood HS) posted four saves in 40 minutes. The duo have now shared five shutouts together.

With her assist, Nanez now has 16 helpers on the season, which is one shy of tying the school's freshman record, which is held by Corina Villegas (2007) and Rebecca Juarez (2006). She is also tied for fourth in most goals in a season (21) with Villegas (2008), Monique Cisneros (2007) and Lina Valderrama (2005). As a team, the Falcons have broken their record for most goals in a season (83), eclipsing the old mark of 73 set in 1997.
