Over the last three seasons, former Cerritos College punter Corey Bojorquez was a member of the Buffalo Bills. After leading the NFL with a 50.8 punting average last season, Bojorquez has signed a contract with the Los Angeles Rams.
In his three years with the Bills, Bojorquez averaged 45 yards per punt across 165 punts and 40 games. Of those 165 punts, 74 landed inside an opponent's 20-yard line. More recently, he is coming off a 2020 season in which he averaged a career-best 50.8 yards per punt with 18 landing inside an opponent's 20. He also launched a career-long, 70-yard punt in a game last season.
The 24-year-old left-footed specialist originally entered the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent signee by the New England Patriots out of the University of New Mexico. He was claimed off waivers by the Bills one day after the Patriots waived him at the end of the preseason that year.
A free agent after last season, the Bills had to first make the decision if they wanted to tender Bojorquez since he was a restricted free agent. This would have meant at a minimum they would have had to offer him a one-year deal worth $2.13 million. However, with how little they punted last year the question was whether or not it made sense to pay Bojorquez as one of the best at his position.
While with the Falcons, Bojorquez was a 1st Team all-conference selection as a sophomore in 2015 after averaging 43.8 yards, with 14 of his 44 punts landing inside the opponent's 20-yard line
Bojorquez will now compete with Johnny Hekker, who still has three years remaining on his current contract.
