Opening South Coast Conference play on Wednesday, the Cerritos College women's water polo team posted a 20-1 win over visiting Pasadena City College. The Falcons (4-3, 1-0) will now host Chaffey College at 4:15 p.m. next Wednesday in another conference match.

In the win over the Lancers (0-3, 0-1), Cerritos scored the first 17 goals of the game, which included eight in each of the first two periods. Seven different goal scorers found the back of the next in the first period, as the team scored on all but three of their possessions. They continued to add to their goal total in the second period, with sophomore Camila Oliveira (Cerritos HS) and freshman Kathy Garcia (Warren HS) each accounting for two goals.

The Falcons worked on their passing in the second half, which limited their shot attempts. They held the ball until the final seconds of the shot clock on each of their possessions.

By the end of the game, 11 different players scored at least one goal, with freshman Ceci Ortiz-Miranda (El Rancho HS) leading the way with four goals, while the duo of Oliveira and sophomore Valeria Barboza (Paramount HS) each added three goals. The passing allowed 11 players to record at least one assist, including freshman goalkeeper Jayden Starr-Smith (Buena Park HS), who made three saves in the game.
