Continuing to cruise through their South Coast Conference schedule, the Cerritos College women's water polo team remains in a tie for first place after their 17-4 win at East Los Angeles College on Wednesday. The Falcons (10-6, 5-0) will host a mini-tournament on Friday, as they take on both Orange Coast College at 8:30 a.m. and then Palomar College for a 1:30 p.m. start.

After both teams traded goals in the first period, the Falcons went on a run where they accounted for nine of the next 10 goals in the game to open a sizeable lead. The trio of Monserrat Rodriguez (Western HS), Ceci Ortiz-Miranda (El Rancho HS) and Camila Oliveira (Cerritos HS) all scored consecutive goals during that stretch. Freshman goalie Jayden-Starr Smith (Buena Park HS) also got in on the action, as she scored her second goal of the season with one second left on the clock in the first period. She would also go on to assist on three other goals.

Although the Huskies opened the second half with a goal, the Falcons scored the final seven goals, with Ortiz-Miranda picking up two more.

She was joined by Rodriguez with four goals each, while Luna Huitron (Warren HS) scored on all three of her shots. Rodriguez also recorded three of the team's 16 steals, with 11 different players posting at least one. Smith finished the game with 14 saves on goal.
