Looking for their first win over Golden West College since an 8-7 win on September 14, 2007, the Cerritos College women's water polo team dropped a 17-7 non-conference decision on Friday. The win by the Rustlers (15-5) was the 13th in a row over the Falcons (9-6), who will resume South Coast Conference play next Wednesday. The team will travel to East Los Angeles College for a 3:00 p.m. match. The loss to Golden West snapped a four-game winning streak for Cerritos.
The Falcons opened the scoring in the game when Eleonor Curiel (Downey HS) scored 1:02 in the match and after Jasmine Escorcia (Western HS) scored later in the period, the game was tied, 2-2. The Rustlers scored the next four goals of the game and opened a 10-4 lead by intermission.
The third period did not favor Cerritos, who failed to score, but saw the Rustlers score five times to open a sizable lead. The Falcons finished strong by scoring the last three goals on the day, with Monserrat Rodriguez (Western HS) accounting for two of them.
Rodriguez and Escorcia both scored a pair of goals in the game, while goalie Jayden-Starr Smith (Buena Park HS) posted six steals to go with her 11 saves.
