With their top five runners finishing in the top 15, the Cerritos College women's cross country team won the championship of the Brubaker Invitational on Friday. The Falcons finished with 45 team points and beat eight other teams on the Irvine Regional Park course. The team will travel north to Oregon next Saturday for the Lewis and Clark Invitational.
Coming in second place on the 5K course out of 73 runners was Marylu Pulido (Whittier HS), who turned in a stellar time of 20:14.8. She was beat by Toni Lopez of Santa Ana College (19:19.2), while she held off two other runners for the second place finish. One of the next pair of runners after the top four was Elsa Vazquez Vallin (Warren HS), who came in fifth place overall with her time of 20:21.5. Three of the nine schools had their first two runners finish in the top 10, but the Falcons were more consistent, as their next three runners finished 14 seconds apart and were in the top 14.
