As one of only two community colleges to compete in the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team came in 12th place out of 14 schools. The Falcons finished with 321 team points and trailed the only other community college - American River College - who finished in 11th place. Next Friday, the team will run in the South Coast Conference Championships, which will take place at Heartwell Park in Long Beach.
Running in the extended 6K race, Cerritos saw their first runner to cross the finish line in 25:43.2, which put Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) in 95th place out of 167 total runners. It wasn't long before Claudia Rios (Paramount HS) and Kimberly Ibarra (Warren HS) completed the course, with Rios in 99th place in a time of 25:51.4, while Ibarra recorded a 102nd place time of 25:58.0. Not too far behind in 109th place was Lila Palmer (Long Beach Poly HS), who checked in with a time of 26:12.2 and finished in a deadlock with Sarah Chavez of Dominican (CA) College.
The Falcons closed out their team scoring when Kaitlyn Macias (La Mirada HS) checked in with a 145th place time of 289:23.6. They were the only entries on the day for Cerritos, who brought the minimum amount of runners to compile a team score.
