Seeded #4 for the South Coast Conference Tournament, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 win over #5-seeded El Camino College on Friday. The win by the Falcons (6-9-4) advances them to the semifinal game, where they will travel to #1-seeded Long Beach City College on Monday. Earlier in the season, the Vikings posted a close 1-0 decision over Cerritos.

Taking on the visiting Warriors, Cerritos found themselves trailing, 1-0 just four minutes into the game. After a steal in the Falcons zone by ECC's Evie Campbell, she broke open and fed a pass to Leah Garcia, who completed the play with a goal.

The early goal and subsequent pressure from El Camino didn't faze the Falcons, as they were able to tie the game 15 minutes later when Christina Rodriguez (Buena Park HS) scooped up a loose ball and dribbled into Warrior territory and fired a low, rolling shot that went under goalkeeper Jordan Stemberga. It was the second goal of the season for Rodriguez.

With time running out in the game, the Falcons were able to break through when sophomore Jenna Santos (St. Joseph HS) sent a perfectly placed long crossing pass to sophomore Jessica Arroyo (Buena Park HS). Playing the ball off her foot, she turned that one touch into a hard shot and into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the year.

El Camino turned up the heat, but the Cerritos defense and goalkeeper Paulina Prescott (Downey HS) were up to the task. She made six of her eight saves in the second half, while defender Melaina Pech (Gahr HS) also fought off Warrior players on more than one occasion as they looked for open shots.
