Cerritos College men's and women's tennis coach Alvin Kim was named Coach of the Year in leading both of his teams to stellar seasons. Kim led the women's team to the school's first-ever CCCAA Dual Team State Championship and was selected the South Coast Conference Women's Coach of the Year for all sports. On the men's side, he guided the Falcons to another undefeated conference season and a 24-4 mark overall, on his way to being named the state's Men's Coach of the Year.
For the women, his Falcons went 24-1 on the year, with their only loss to NCAA Division III Whittier College. They swept through conference play and defeated Mt. San Antonio College, College of the Desert and then DeAnza College for the state championship. It marked the second time Kim has been honored by the conference, as he won the 2007-08 award on the men's side.
As for his men's team in 2016, they went 24-4 on the year, with two of the losses coming at the hands of NCAA Division II powerhouses. The other losses were to eventual CCCAA State Champion Irvine Valley College. Kim guided his top doubles team, as well as top singles player to the state semifinals.
