This weekend, members of the Cerritos College track and field team will be taking part of the National Pole Vault Summit, which is being held in Reno, NV. The Falcon pole vaulters will be attending the educational portion of the summit on Friday, January 13, which includes conferences, guest speakers, professional athletes, Olympic gold medalists and other festivities.
The event continues Friday evening when they will watch the Elite Pole Vault Show at 7:30 p.m. at the Reno Livestock Center, which is a competition between several Rio Olympic athletes, Rio Trials athletes, former Olympic competitors and current elite athletes in training. The team met Sandi Morris, 2016 Rio USA Olympic Silver Medalist. (pictured, below)
Those representing the college include (pictured) Andrew Fowler, Nico Mendoza, Michael Rappa and Chris Lowry from the men's team, as well as Amanda Salgado, Michelle Echenbacher and Adrianna Martinez. Former Falcon Danny Barrios will also be in attendance.
On Saturday, all Cerritos student-athletes compete at 3:15 p.m. at the Reno Livestock Center, which will be a first-time experience for several of the Falcons.
According to the Pole Vault Summit website: The National Pole Vault Summit is a grassroots developmental clinic established and continued to promote safety and encourage the advancement of Pole Vaulting at all levels through constant education. The Summit structure is designed to meet the needs of all ability levels including athlete, coaches, and parent break-out sessions, learn-by-doing instruction and roundtable discussion with the world's best athletes and coaches. Led by National and Regional Staff influenced by National Men's and Women's Pole Vault Developmental chairmen, each year we compile the most experienced and extensive staff to bring a truly unique experience for our attendees. We appreciate the massive amount of help to put on the best event in Track and Field.
