Southern California Bracket (PDF)
After compiling a 26-13 regular season record and a third place finish in the South Coast Conference South Division, the Cerritos College softball team was seeded #7 for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons will host a best 2-of-3 series with #10-seeded Citrus College (24-14), who finished in a second place tie in the Western State Conference East Division.
The first game of the series will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, with the second game slated for noon on Saturday. If a third game is needed, it will be played at 2:00 p.m., or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game. Tickets may be purchased at the entry gate and will cost $12 for general admission and $8 for students and staff with ID, senior citizens and children under 12 years old.
This will be the first meeting of the season for Cerritos and the Owls, although they have played nine common opponents during the season. The Falcons have faced each of the top five seeded teams this season, while they have played one of the toughest schedules in the state. Cerritos has taken on 13 of the 18 teams that qualified for the post-season and have a 10-13 record, which accounts for all of their losses this year. As for Citrus, they have faced the top six seeded teams and are 7-12 on the year against 11 of the post-season teams.
This series will boast two of the better power hitters in the state, with Cerritos featuring sophomore shortstop Kylee Brown (Mayfair HS) and Citrus outfielder Jade Nua. Brown ranks second in the state in RBI (64) and tied for third in home runs (16) with Nua, who has driven in 62 runs and leads the state with 41 walks. Nua also ranks second in the state with a .613 batting average.
Both teams have hit 38 home runs on the season, but both are also patient at the plate, as they rank 1-2 in the state season walks, with the Falcons holding a slight edge, 182-171. In the circle, Cerritos ranks ninth in Southern California with 174 strikeouts.
